Edmundo Pires was born in Mirandela and began his musical studies in this same town at the Escola Profissional de Arte. He studied privately with Valentin Stefanov and graduated in Music Teaching from the Universidade de Évora in the violin class of Professor Max Rabinovitsj. He also accomplished his pedagogical internship at the Academia de Amadores de Música de Lisboa, under the guidance of Professor Gareguin Aroutiounian. He was the founder of the string quartet of the Universidde de Évora and the concertmaster of the Orquestra da Universidade de Évora.
In 2005 the string quartet of the Universidade de Évora was selected to participate in a masterclass under the guidance of the famous Borodin Quartet, promoted by the Casa da Música in Porto. Invited in 2009 to join the Quarteto de Cordas de Aveiro, he regularly presents himself with this ensemble, notably at the Festival de Outono Aveiro 2010, as well as at the concerts with the soprano Isabel Alcobia.
As a violinist he collaborated with the Camerata Ensemble da Guarda, Orquestra do Norte and Orquestra Gulbenkian. He was also an effective violinist of the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras between 2006 and 2012.
As a teacher he was invited to give masterclasses in several music schools such as the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian in Aveiro, the Collegium Musicum in Seia, the Escola Profissional da Jobra, the Academia de Música de Vila do Paraíso, the Academia de Música de Perosinho and the Curso de Música Silva Monteiro. As a leader and conductor of the string orchestra of the Conservatório Regional de Música de Vila Real, he achieved with this ensemble the 1 st Prize – category of large groups – of the third edition of the Mostra Musical Eixo Atlântico. He was the guiding teacher of the violin section at the Festival de Música Júnior – Montalegre in 2012 and 2016, and also one of the teachers of the Orquestra Juvenil Luso-Alemã.
He is a member of the group Mistério da Cultura and AMEP – Associação Música Esperança Portugal. He is currently a violin teacher at the Conservatório Regional de Música de Vila Real and at the Academia de Artes de Chaves.
